Cocatoo Island has been developed with the support ot he Parliamentary Education Office and Birds Australia.
Cockatoo Island introduces the concepts of citizenship and living in a democracy. It is designed for students in middle to upper primary. On Cockatoo Island, students experience the challenges of living in a diverse society where everyone has rights and responsibilities.
The Cockatoo Island Resource Pack includes a shared book and Teacher's Guide for each fo the three titles: Welcom to Cockatoo Island, Cacophony and A Parliament of Birds.
COCKATOO ISLAND AND THE CURRICULUM
Cockatoo Island was specially designed for the SOSE/HSIE curricula. Outcomes in the language, science and arts curriculum are also particularly relevant, and by using Cockatoo Island as a key resource, it is possible for teachers to build and integrated unit. |
